At 145 km long by 60 km wide, and with approximately 500 km coastline, Kangaroo Island is the third largest island off the coast of Australia. Despite it's large size, the permanent human population is quite small at under 5,000.

As a result, there has not been a large negative human impact on wildlife. Although approximately 25% of the island is protected wilderness or conservation park, the remaining areas also have pockets of relatively pristine bushland.

As you can imagine, an island of this size takes a number of days to explore. The roads have improved in recent years with a good quality sealed road to all the main sites, but there are numerous, wonderful places "off the beaten track" that are still quite accessible by good gravel roads. After discussing your interests with you, Peter and Penny can advise you of the sorts of places you might enjoy.

Whether bird watching, bush walking, strolling along sandy beaches, looking for sea-shells, enjoying all the lovely Kangaroo Island native plants, or even casting a line for some of our tasty sea or river fish, there is plenty for the adventurous or relaxed visitor.
